ChicagoLax Plays well at GLLI
ChicagoLax opened the summer season, and played their first game as a unit agains Total Select at the Great Lakes Lacrosse Invitational. It took a while to knock the rust off and ChicagoLax lost 5-7 to a solid team. Several players turned in strong efforts, but it took until late in the game for the guys to gel as a team. The attack was led by Rob Flannery with 2 goals and 1 assist, Tommy Lonergan - 1 goal, Mike Frietag - assist, and Ben Zahler - assist. Strong middie play contributed the remaining three goals with Alex Miller scoring 1, Peter Santulli -1, and Brian Teshcke 1. Mike Griffin was a standout in goal, with several great clears to breaking middies. The defense was anchored by David Federico, Miles Quinn, and Scott Cruwys, with aggressive LSM play from Ben Clark.
In the second game, ChicagoLax defeated BJ Sports Elite 7-4. Scoring was led by Joe Kent - 2 goals and assist, Rob Flannery - goal, Alex Miller - goal and 2 assists, Taylor Hess goal and assist, and LSM Ben Clark with a coast to coast goal! Hess, Teschke, and Kent dominated on faceoffs. Another strong showing by Griffin in the goal helped create several fast break situations for ChicagoLax. Defensive play was very solid with Quinn, Cruwys, and Federico smothering the opposing attack.
In the final game, ChicagoLax defeated the eventual tourney champs (we missed the finals due to the point system) GP Select, 5-4. Solid goalie play by both Griffin and Matt Walker, as well as great defensive play by Cruwys, Federico, Quinn, and Clark was the key to the victory. Scoring was well distributed with Flannery notching 1 goal, Miller 1, Santulli 1, Hess 1, and Vinnie Casini 1.
ChicagoLax travels to Lancaster, PA to participate in the TopLax Invitational, July 7th and 8th.
